What a night!

So, last night I saw police running down my street. I've seen police on my street before, but it was the fact that they had their guns out that scared me. There were just two at first, then a few minutes later another ran by with an assault rifle. They ran straight to the house at the end of my circle and I assumed there was a problem at that house. It turns out that some guys had robbed a store in Riverton (a mile from my mom's house and in the same plaza where she had been shopping that day) and they were armed. They had been traced back to a house that backed the houses on the end of my circle. The police went into the yards at the end of my circle in order to surround the house so the suspects couldn't escape.

When it was happening I didn't know if they were chasing someone or what...I was relieved to find out we weren't in danger...they were just taking precautions to surround the house. I was feeding the kids dinner when I saw the police running by and I made them go upstairs to finish eating...in case there were any shots fired (paranoid...maybe, I prefer to think of myself as careful and prepared)! Last summer my cousin (who lives in S Carolina) heard shots fired, then found out the police had shot her neighbor in HER backyard. So scary. That's all I could think about last night and was glad things turned out different for us!

Jess of course was not home for this. He was on a plane coming home from Tucson! I was supposed to go visiting teaching and had a friend coming over to watch my kids. I tried calling her to tell her not to come over (I didn't want anyone outside my house while the police were running around) but I didn't get in touch with her in time, so she was here with me while I was trying to figure out what was going on. The police cars were gone within an house and lucky for me my girls are young enough that they weren't bothered by the fact that the police were outside!

That is scary. Remember when Mike and I came home from Vegas and there was police tape all over the fence that separated our house from the trailer homes on the other side of the fence? Turns out the couple that lived there were separated and the wife showed up with a boyfriend while the husband was hiding in a car watching. He got out and stabbed them both and killed the boyfriend and then stabbed himself. Isn't that awful? My neighbors were home and the police knocked on their door asking all these questions. They looked out the window and the dead man was just laying on the grass! Anyway, good story huh? Aren't you glad I shared? I'm glad nothing like that happened to you.

When Brent was here last week, we all met at Adam's house for pizza. I told everyone the story Jen blogged about here and then the next story was about the murder in your Provo ghetto neighborhood!
