Utah State Fair

We went to the opening day of the State Fair yesterday. Abby and Leah are now old enough to really enjoy it and Lauren did great just sitting in the stroller for most of the time. They had a fun exhibit called "Helping Hands Farm" where the kids got to work on a mini-sized pretend farm. They got aprons and buckets, then milked a cow, picked apples from the orchard, planted seeds, harvested veggies, drove a tractor and groomed a sheep. Then they took all of their items to the market to sell and got pretend dollar which they took to the grocery store to buy a snack! It was so fun for the girls (and their dad, too!) and a great way to teach kids about how a farm works.

We looked at some of the exhibits (as we looked at the photography we noticed that one of our neighbors had submitted some great photos and even got an honorable mention award for one of them!), watched a demo on quick and easy camping meals made using freezer bags, looked at all of the animals, and let the kids ride some of the rides (the highlight of the night for them, of course). As with any fun thing, the kids are already asking when we get to go back. Next year is a hard thing for them to grasp at this age.

You guys do so many fun things with your girls. Even if you don't take long vactions with them, it's the day trips and the time you spend with them on a daily or weekly basis that will count. They will always have a love of State Fairs now because of the fun they have had with their parents.
It has always been one of my favorite memories and places to go -- because my parents took us since Dad was usually showing steers. So he could count it as work and we could count it as fun.
Looks like such fun at the little farm. It's a great idea, too.

That looks like so much fun! Wouldn't it be fun if we lived close and could all go together?

Look at those milkmaids! So cute. Sounds like a fun exhibit. We haven't tried out the Boise fair yet. Maybe one of these years. :)

Of course they are going to have fun being farmers, it's in their blood! They look like they are having tons of fun on the rides. Seth is too much of a scrooge to take us to the fair :(

So why did't you invite grandpa to go, too. I actually fogot it was fair time. I guess, now I think of it I was home with a broken rib.

I love the fair. I could spend hours and hours there seeing everything. Chris does not like it like I do, but we go when I talk her into it. Ammon liked it when he went. It was the first time he rode a farris wheel.
