Milestones

We had a monumental week here. It started on Saturday when Abby broke her bike in. Not "broke" like it doesn't work anymore, but "broke" like she trained it and can now ride it. Without any help. Including those silly training wheels.

I decided that this Spring was the time to get her educated in the proper art of bike riding. It was so beautiful on Saturday that I decided the time was right. I quickly took off her wheels, held her bike up, showed her how to start herself, and off she went. I held the back of her seat for about 30 feet, but then just ran beside her. That's all I had to do. She's an expert now. She had no major or even minor falls (this isn't fair; shouldn't she have a least one scab from learning to ride her bike?) and looks for every opportunity to "play in the front yard." That's her code for "grab my helmet, get my bike, and get a-ridin'". See the attached video for proof.

The other monumental thing was we signed our middle child, Princess Leah, up for preschool. Jen is getting so old. She's got one kid in kindergarten and another starting preschool this fall. I keep on looking at it like "There's $55/month that my parents never spent on my when I was that age and I turned out smart." Jen gives me this dirty look when I say that.

Regardless, we're excited for the sweet learning opportunities our kids are having/taking/making. Life is good.

Way to go Abby! And what preschool is Leah going to? We have been looking for a preschool for the girls with no luck.

We got to see Abby ride her bike Saturday and she was doing a great job! It's always a big step when kids learn to ride a bike.
Your comment on the pre-school and what your parents didn't spend on you was really funny. Just think how much smarter you might be if we had..... :) I just didn't want to part from you - not even for an hour. :) ha, ha, ha, ha.

YEAH ABBY! FREEDOM has arrived! Now you just have to find the perfect bike trail!

And preschool rocks! Leah will soak it all in like a sponge! She's such a social butterfly!

I am with Jess. I think that mother, especially one as great as Jen, can give the very best preschool there is. And with fifty dollars you could take Jen to a movie and dinner at a nice place. Leah will be smart no matter what she has for school.

Great job Abby! Karsten thinks that is pretty cool too...now his future wife can keep up with him on his bike. =)

And just so you know...just in case Leah needs a career path to "fall back on", she could always be a housekeeper. She did a wonderful job cleaning up my playroom today. According to Leah, she is the ONLY one who does ALL of the chores at your house. She is HILARIOUS!

Yay Abby! That is totally awesome! Aren't these milestones wonderful? I still remember the times when my children conquered the two-wheeler! Wahoo!

I felt a distinct sense of loss the first time Caleb turned the corner, out of my sight, on his bike. Now there are days I wish he would stay out of sight.

Good job, Abby. FREEDOM!!!
